Database Reliability Engineer (M/W)

 

 

We are looking for an experienced Database Reliability Engineer and act as the main database technical focal point for our application landscape.

The person will work on database lifecycle management, patching, upgrade, VM Blueprints, Database over Openshift, automation, monitoring, audit, troubleshooting.

The position will also support the maintenance, reliability, performance and continuous improvement of the

databases used by our applications, including MongoDB, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, CouchDB, Redis and Kafka.

  • Act as the main database technical focal point for the application team and work with developers, solution architects and infrastructure teams to improve query performance, indexing strategies, data access patterns and database resilience.
  • Maintain and improve the reliability, performance, security and operational maturity of databases, including SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MariaDB, MongoDB, CouchDB, Redis and Kafka.
  • Support incident investigation, root cause analysis and performance troubleshooting for database-related issues.
  • Contribute to database server blueprints, operational standards, VM baselines, upgrade strategies and shared runbooks.
  • Automate repetitive database operations such as health checks, configuration validation, backup verification, monitoring checks and operational reporting.
  • Improve database observability through monitoring, alerting, dashboards and practical troubleshooting tools.
  • Contribute to security hardening, vulnerability remediation, access control review, auditability and compliance-related database activities.
  • Support data protection practices at database level, including encryption, data minimization,pseudonymization, anonymization, retention and controlled deletion.
  • Support database lifecycle activities, including patching, upgrades, configuration reviews, backup and restore validation, capacity planning and decommissioning.

 

Profil :

 

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • You have minimun 3 years in lead position, 1 year of experience with infrastructure automation and 2 years of experience running PostgreSQL/Mariadb or SQLServer preferably in a large production environment
  • You have 1 year with any object oriented programming language in a software engineering role
  • Strong English (written and spoken) is required; French is a plus.

 

Technology Scope

 

The role may cover several database and data infrastructure technologies, including:

  • SQL Server
  • PostgreSQL
  • MariaDB / MySQL
  • MongoDB
  • CouchDB
  • Redis
  • Kafka and related persistence/metadata components
  •  Database deployments on virtual machines and, where relevant, container platforms such as Kubernetes or OpenShift
  • Deep expertise in every technology is not mandatory, but the candidate must be comfortable working across heterogeneous environments and willing to learn unfamiliar database platforms quickly.

 

Skills & Competencies

 

  • Strong hands-on experience as a DBA, database engineer, platform engineer or database reliability engineer.
  • Good understanding of database administration concepts: backup and restore, upgrades, patching, indexing, query performance, replication, high availability, storage management and access control.
  • Experience with at least two of the following technologies: SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MariaDB/MySQL, MongoDB,CouchDB, Redis or Kafka.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex production issues across application, database, operating system and infrastructure layers.
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, ELK or vendor-specific database monitoring solutions.
  • Have solid knowledge of SQL
  • Strong collaboration skills, especially when working across application, infrastructure, security and database teams
  • Have a proactive, go-for-it attitude
  • Know your way around Linux and the Unix Shell

 

Location : Geneva

Starting date  : As soon as possible

Activity : 100%

Duration : 6 months renewable

Diplôme d’État en ingénierie aéronautique, informatique ou systèmes embarqués – ou équivalent reconnu en Suisse; un Master en gestion des systèmes ou MSc spécialisé est un plus Diplômes ou équivalences reconnus : Diplôme de qualification professionnelle (CFC) équivalent à un Master en France, Diplôme d’ingénieur (Bourges, l’Université de Genève) reconnu dans les cantons suisses, Certification ITIL/ITSM pour la gestion des informations.
