Boston University Study Abroad Geneva Programs delivers semester-long programs for undergraduate students from Boston University in International Relations, Public Health, and Physics since 2005. Operating on the Spring and Fall US academic calendars, our Geneva center provides immersive, academically rigorous coursework and experiential learning in the heart of the international city. As a member of a small, collaborative local team, you will contribute directly to the academic delivery and student experience.

Boston University Study Abroad Geneva invites applications for a part-time Lecturer position in Economics to teach an undergraduate course offered to Boston University students spending a semester in Geneva. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching

Money and Banking

, following Boston University’s main campus syllabus while adapting examples and materials to the Geneva context. The course corresponds to

40 hours of classroom teaching

, in addition to syllabus and Blackboard preparation, exam preparation, and grading.

Teaching Professional Economy, Money and Banking

You will be expected to work closely with the Director of BU Study Abroad Geneva, with the Assistant Director, Academic Affairs, Geneva Programs on all academic matters related to this course, ensuring that students have a rigorous and engaging learning experience during their semester abroad.

Principal duties and responsibilities

Teach the undergraduate course

Money and Banking

.

Prepare and deliver class sessions in line with the approved course description, learning outcomes, and assessment structure provided by Boston University (40 hours of in-class teaching).

Prepare and maintain the course syllabus and Blackboard page, including uploading readings, assignments, and other course materials.

Design, administer, and grade assessments (exams, quizzes, assignments) in accordance with Boston University policies and the grading scheme defined for the course.

Prepare exams and other evaluations and correct them within the required deadlines.

Provide regular feedback to students on their progress and hold office hours or equivalent consultation times.

Submit grades and any required documentation within the deadlines set by BU Study Abroad Geneva and Boston University.

Coordinate, as appropriate, with the Geneva Director and BU Academic Affairs on course organisation, quality assurance, and any necessary reporting.

Contribute, where relevant, to the academic life of the BU Geneva program (for example occasional meetings, exam boards, or informal academic events).

Job qualifications and competencies required for the role

Advanced degree in Economics, Finance, Business or a closely related field (PhD preferred; a Master’s degree may be considered with strong relevant professional or teaching experience).

Demonstrated expertise in

money, banking, financial markets, and monetary economics

. Knowledge of the American and Swiss contexts will be an asset.

Proven experience teaching Economics at the undergraduate level, ideally in English and in an international or multicultural environment.

Ability to explain technical material clearly and to connect theory to real-world examples and current policy debates (for example central banking, financial regulation, financial crises).

Familiarity with, or willingness to work within, an existing course framework and assessment structure defined by a home campus.

Good organisational skills and reliability in meeting teaching, grading, and reporting deadlines.

Excellent command of English (teaching language). French or another major language is an asset.

Comfortable using standard learning management systems (such as Blackboard) or willing to be trained.

Must have Swiss nationality or long-term valid work permit

Your place of work will be Geneva. The course is taught in person, and an on-site presence during the semester is required.
