The International Road Transport Union (IRU) is the global voice of road transport, representing the interests of bus, coach, taxi, and truck operators worldwide. Founded in 1948, IRU works to promote safe, efficient, and sustainable mobility and logistics by advocating for fair policies, developing international standards, and fostering innovation in the road transport sector. With members in over 100 countries, IRU collaborates closely with governments, industry stakeholders, and international organizations to keep people and goods moving, driving economic growth and social well-being across the globe.

Description of the role

We are looking for an exceptional leader to step into the role of Secretary General, serving as the Chief Executive Officer of the IRU. This pivotal position offers an exciting opportunity to drive the mission and shape the future of road transport on a global scale. Key responsibilities include:

Strategic Development and External Relations:

• Identify and capitalize on opportunities for growth and strategic partnerships, adeptly navigating the political, legal, and operational landscape of the transport sector.

• Represent IRU in influential international forums and engage with significant global entities and governmental bodies.

• Amplify IRU's brand through impactful communication strategies across diverse platforms.

Vision and Leadership:

• Lead IRU in realizing its vision of becoming the foremost leader in the road transport sector, connecting societies through safe, efficient, and sustainable logistics.

• Direct the achievement of IRU's mission and strategic objectives, driving both annual and long-term goals.

• Build a focused and aligned senior management team, cultivating a culture of innovation and accountability.

Operations and Management:

• Oversee the effective functioning of IRU's secretariat, managing the strategic team and statutory bodies.

• Ensure the sound management of finances through compliance with internal regulations and comprehensive oversight of accounting practices.

• Organize key statutory meetings while providing vital support to the President.

• Foster strong relationships within IRU and engage with corporate partners and stakeholders to enhance collaboration.

Requirements:

Candidates should demonstrate a blend of strong leadership experience and sector expertise. The ideal profile includes:

• Proven record of strong leadership and management experience in a senior position in a non-governmental organization.

• In-depth understanding of the trade and transport sector, with substantial experience in sustainable transport and related technologies.

• A relevant university degree (Master's preferred).

• Exceptional strategic thinking and negotiation skills, with cultural awareness.

• Proficiency in both English and French; additional languages are considered an asset.

• Ability to navigate complex regulatory and operational environments while upholding the organizational values.
