Graduate Assistant in Human-Centered AI Systems for Collaborative Programming Learning

With the advancements of Artificial Intelligence and Large Language Models, the process of learning programming is becoming more dynamic. We are seeking for a motivated Graduate Assistant at the Department of Information Systems (DESI) from HEC Lausanne of the University of Lausanne to explore the evolving role of AI in shaping collaborative dimensions of programming learning. This research lies at the intersection of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), AI, and programming education. The candidate will explore and evaluate emerging interaction paradigms between programming learners and AI systems, focusing on how these interactions can foster collective initiatives and collaboration in programming learning.

This work will integrate a human-centred and psychologically informed approach to design and develop new tools and synergies between AI systems and people working on code together, with the goal of supporting more effective and engaging collaborative programming learning experiences. Candidates are welcome to bring their own research perspectives and ideas within this scope.

Contract length : 1 year, renewable 2 x 2 years, maximum 5 years

Activity rate : 100%

Workplace : UNIL, Campus Dorigny

Your responsibilities

In your activities, you will have to :

• Design and develop learning technologies grounded in HCI and AI research, informed by psychology and learning theories

• Conduct research and evaluation of the developed tools using HCI methodologies

• Publish research in A* and A ranked HCI and AI conference and journal

50% of the time will be spent on teaching responsibilities and projects

50% of the time will be dedicated to conducting doctoral research

Your qualifications

In order to complete our team, we are looking for someone with the following skills :

• Master Degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) or HCI related fields - Computer Science (CS) or CS related fields

• Willingness to do research in HCI, particularly in human-centred AI systems for collaborative programming learning

• Strong programming skills with knowledge about front-end and back-end development. Also adept with development of AI supported tools.

• Strong understanding of HCI and its methodologies

• Strong communication skills with full fluency in English. Knowledge of French is a plus

• Strong writing skills for scientific plubications
