The Role
We are looking for a motivated Telecom Infrastructure & Network Engineer to join our Infrastructure & Network Engineering team.
Our team designs, operates and maintains the telecommunications connectivity, networks and infrastructure supporting Intellico’s business-critical messaging platform. We take responsibility for SMPP and SS7/SIGTRAN connectivity, data-center and inter-site networks, firewalls, virtualization, Linux systems and storage environments.
Your primary focus will be telecommunications connectivity and protocol-level troubleshooting. You will also contribute to network engineering and the operation of our physical and virtual infrastructure across multiple colocation sites.
You will work closely with the team to investigate incidents across telecom, network and infrastructure layers.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain SMPP connectivity with customers, carriers and mobile network operators
- Operate and maintain SS7 and SIGTRAN connectivity across external telecom partners
- Provide L2 technical support for telecom connectivity, signalling and protocol-level incidents
- Support onboarding, testing and activation of new SMPP and SS7/SIGTRAN interconnections and their configuration
- Troubleshoot SMPP, SCTP, M3UA and related communication and session-establishment problems
- Operate and maintain data-center, office and inter-site networks based on Cisco and related technologies
- Manage Palo Alto firewalls, firewall policies, VPNs, VLANs, NAT and network segmentation
- Support BGP routing, internet edge connectivity, IP address management and external partner connections
- Monitor and troubleshoot routing, latency, packet loss, DNS, firewall and general connectivity issues using Wireshark and related tools
- Operate Proxmox VE clusters, Linux virtual machines, Ceph and ZFS storage environments
- Support physical servers, storage systems, hardware replacement, cabling, rack space and power connections at colocation sites
- Provision, patch, monitor and troubleshoot Linux systems and core infrastructure services such as DNS, DHCP, NTP and certificates
- Support backup, restore, high availability, disaster recovery, infrastructure documentation and the compensated on-call rotation
Requirements
- Good understanding of TCP/IP networking and network communication
- Practical experience with Linux systems and structured technical troubleshooting
- Experience with Wireshark or comparable packet-analysis tools
- Knowledge of SMPP and telecommunications messaging is a strong advantage
- Knowledge of SS7, SIGTRAN, SCTP, M3UA or related protocols is an advantage
- Experience with telecommunications, carrier connectivity or network operations is an advantage
- Good understanding of switching, routing, VLANs, NAT, DNS and network segmentation
- Experience with firewalls, VPNs and access-control concepts
- Knowledge of Cisco, Palo Alto or comparable enterprise network technologies
- Knowledge of BGP and internet edge routing is an advantage
- Experience with virtualization platforms such as Proxmox, VMware or comparable technologies
- Understanding of Ceph, ZFS or other storage technologies is an advantage
- Experience with server hardware, Linux administration, monitoring, backup and high-availability concepts
- Strong soft skills, including problem-solving, teamwork, ownership and communication
- Education in IT, systems engineering, computer science or a related field, eg:
- Informatiker/in EFZ, Fachrichtung Plattformentwicklung
- ICT-System- und Netzwerktechniker/in mit eidg. Fachausweis
- Cisco CCNA or a comparable networking qualification
- A comparable technical or university qualification
- Fluent in English, German is an advantage, resident in Switzerland
Practicalities
- Location: Freienbach, Switzerland
- Employment: Permanent, full-time position, 80%-100%
- Working model: Primarily office-based, with up to two home-office days per week where operational responsibilities allow
- Schedule: Normal working hours with participation in an on-call rotation
- Travel: Occasional visits to other Intellico offices and colocation facilities
