The Data Team is supporting the NZZ in being a data-driven organization. As an Analytics Center of Competence our job is to provide everyone in our company with the necessary tools and knowledge to arrive at better and more informed decisions, contributing to the digital transformation. In close cooperation with our product management, marketing and editorial teams, we build «smart» data products (such as article recommendations) to support internal and customer facing use-cases. We are a highly motivated and skilled team of data professionals (data analysts, data scientists, data engineers) working based on agile development methods and living the principles of an innovation culture, testing and advancing new ideas iteratively.
We are looking for an engaged and winning personality as:
Your tasks:
•
Lead and develop a team of data scientists, fostering a culture of curiosity, collaboration, and impact
•
Design and implement new data products to support content personalization, audience segmentation, and churn prediction
•
Oversee end-to-end model lifecycle - from ideation and experimentation to deployment and monitoring
•
Collaborate closely with Product, Editorial and Marketing teams to translate business objectives into data-driven solutions
•
Carrying out more complex analyses including preparation and presentation of the results
•
Promote best practices in data science, including code quality, experimentation, and reproducibility
•
Contribute to the broader data strategy, helping shape the evolution of NZZ's data and AI capabilities
Your profile:
•
Master's degree in a quantitative discipline (computer science, mathematics, statistics, physics, etc.)
•
5+ years of experience in data science, with at least 2 years in a leadership or mentoring role
•
Strong theoretical and practical know-how in statistics, machine learning and natural language processing
•
Excellent understanding of experimental design, A/B testing, and data-driven decision-making
•
Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including Vertex AI
•
Strong programming skills in Python and SQL
•
Strong communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
•
Must have: very good knowledge of English, nice to have: knowledge of German
